the month of Magh Cultural Programs

Music, recitation, dance and drama will be the mainstay of this Bengali heritage festival. The two-day event will include various cultural programs from the Mid-America region. Renowned artists from Bengal and abroad are also invited to perform in the Banga Mela '99. The following artists and groups are expected to attend the festival and present one or more programs. This list is subject to last minute change.
  • SAYAK - Drama Bashbhumi (directed by Meghnad Bhattacharya)
  • Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts - Creative Dance, Adhunik, Palligeeti, Rabindrasangeet
  • Madhabi Mukherjee and Arumoy Bannerjee - Recitation and Audio drama
  • Swapan Basu - Lokgeeti, Palligeeti
  • Banani Ghosh - Rabindrasangeet, Dwijendrageeti, Atulprasadi, Rajanikanta-r gaan
  • Sikha Bose - Rabindrasangeet, Atulprasadi

Several other local artists will also showcase their talents.

    Seminars

    Seminars and discussions will be part of the Banga Mela. Subjects of discussion may include but not limited to: folk art of Bengal, business and networking, Bengal in the 21st century. Ideas and suggestions are invited and should be directed to Susmita Barua (ms2data@lex.infi.net) (606-455-8642).

    Youth Activities

    All youth of Bengali origin are encouraged to participate in various aspects of Banga Mela. This festival would provide an excellent opportunity for the younger generation to meet their peers from neighboring cities and states, exchange ideas and participate in cultural programs and seminars. Please contact Rajeev Sinha (sinha1@compuserve.com) (937) 859-4928 for any ideas, suggestions and participation.

    The youth committee would like to present an exhibition of artworks. Please contact Rajeev Sinha by July 15th if you wish to submit any artwork for the exhibition. The registration for artwork will take place between 9:30am and 11am on 31st July (Saturday).

    Most of the youth programs will be held in Victor Jory Auditorium. There will be youth discussions, youth talent show and social hour (starting 8:00pm on 31st July). Please revisit this page to find out the latest youth schedule.
